◊ We have excellent IT
staff so why shouldn't we let them handle our
forensic investigations?
|
|
Your IT staff is
excellent because they have education, training and
experience in IT matters. However they
probably do not have the training and experience
needed for a forensic investigation. They may well
be involved in what you need investigated.
Most would be uncomfortable investigating a
colleague. A perception of bias is always there when
you conduct your own investigations. Rumors and bad
publicity could result if discretion is not
observed. If not properly trained and proper
protocal and procedures followed the evidence if
found may not be admissable in court.
Your staff is
probably not experienced in investigations and in
testifying in court. If they cannot qualify as
an expert witness the testimony they are allowed to
give will be limited in scope.
